Before joining the Stranglers in 1975 Dave Greenfield had racked up much experience as a gigging muso, having been involved with a whole host of bands, one of which was Rustly Butler. The line up consisting of as well as 24 year old Dave Greenfield on keybaords & backing vocals; Tony Savva – vocals, Eddie Renouf – lead guitar & backing vocals, Colin Norton on drums and Dave Poxon on bass guitar.

The band put down some demo material in late 1973, all written by Dave Poxon, Drivin’ Rose was recorded at Magritte Studios in Hounslow and engineered by Dan Priest, and Truth Games and Freefall were recorded at Saturn Studios in Worthing.

The band gigged extensively on the club and college circuit securing rebookings from over 80% of venues played at, drawing capacity audiences at Bath Technical College and breaking paying customer records at the Hungry Years venue in Brighton.
